Our coping mechanisms served an important purpose at one time but become unhelpful later. We will look at letting go of what doesn’t work anymore. Research proves that the most important element in counselling and psychotherapy is the quality of the relationship between two people as fellow human beings. It is strangely subtle, validates who you are, how you really feel, and is so different from being told what to do. Here you can be known and understood. I am curious to hear your story and from your story and reflecting on your experiences, I can help you to see things from another perspective.
Our minds and bodies are interconnected – one will affect the other. When we connect them together, to become whole, something happens.... To illustrate how I work I use a combination of different therapies based on Transactional Analysis. These therapies include Gestalt Therapy in looking at fixed patterns of relating to ourselves and others, and the spiritual Jungian approach, in raising awareness of your unconscious mind, to discover your hidden self.
A brief summary of Transactional Analysis:
‘Life Script’ An unconscious decision made when we were young about how we needed 'to be' in order to survive and then 'perform' in an uncertain world.
We would then have had beliefs about ourselves and others that we now still hold on to.
We look at how we can recognise these beliefs, see and understand how they provided the defence we needed at that time and the function they served. We can discover, know and accept ourselves, so we can heal, renew and flourish and discover our own unique autonomy.
